Goals, Goals, Goals – January was pretty much hit and miss

At the end of 2016, I posted my Goals for 2017.

Having re-read these goals, I wanted to give an update as to how I’m getting on as we’re now a 12th of the way through 2017!

Did I hit my goals?

The goal for both Twitter and Instagram was to grow my followers by 10%. I ended up concentrating on Twitter and began to really engage with people which I absolutely loved, and as such, I’ve become a tiny bit obsessed with Twitter. As such, my Twitter goal got smashed! I was on approximately 120 followers at the start of January. At the end of the month, I’d gained (according to Twitter analytics (see yours here)) 208 new followers!

Instagram on the other hand, wasn’t so great, however, that’s my own fault for not really using it throughout January. I think I became too invested in Twitter which didn’t allow me time to get involved on Instagram.

As such, I’m actually going to take another month away from Instagram and concentrate (again) on Twitter. Simply because, although my target is again to grow my followers by 10%, I’d now really like to reach 500 by the end of February.

Linky’s are a lot of effort

Having said that, I realise just how effective they can be. Unfortunately, failing to get involved with any linkys to push the blog’s recognition is probably the biggest downfall in January.. I just find them quite time-consuming and feel like I need a good amount of time to enter and interact in the way that I want to. If anyone has tips on how to manage this side of blogging, it would be greatly appreciated.

The final target was also somewhat of a failure. The getting fitter one. I mentioned previously that I’d found a couple of apps that track workouts. Having these installed on my phone should have helped, but they just didn’t get opened once throughout January. I really must try harder with this one and as such I think in addition to my Twitter growth for February, I really want to work on this one.

Overall, January was a mismatch of successes and failures, but, we all have to start somewhere and setting the targets has really opened my eyes to what I need to do to be more successful in blogging and my own little world.

Thanks for reading, see you in the next one!

  1. Congrats on the twitter goal. Blogging is so much more time consuming than anyone who doesn’t do it can imagine. I try and join one linky a day, but since I’m just now commenting on #thatfridaylinky, I can’t say that helps much!

    • Thanks. It’s hugely time consuming, but I guess that’s why a number of bloggers do it full time these days. The things I find hardest are the self promotion and finding content. I regularly go through phases of writer’s block

  2. It’s a funny thing setting goals because if you fail it can be disheartening which is why I don’t good post Thanks for linking to the #THAT FRIDAY LINKY come back next week please

    • That’s my worry at the moment. Kind of why I went for 10%. In my head it sounds easier with lower numbers. However I like to set goals as personally they help motivate me (might be because of previous work environments).

  3. I have loads of fitness apps on my phone and they never get used either haha, I’m glad I’m not the only one failing in this department! #ThatFridayLinky
